Gurkha Fine Foods came about as a result of my husband’s desire to ensure that he had a supply of Gurkha food to last him long into his retirement.
The food of Nepal is unlike that of any of its Asian neighbours. This is something I discovered when my husband Chris served two tours with the Gurkhas. Suddenly we were introduced to a range of dishes different from any we had eaten before. Flavourful, richly and fragrantly spiced, but frequently without the eye-watering heat of dishes from further south. During Chris’s time with the Gurkhas, we enjoyed Nepali hospitality over and over again, and as his tour approached its close, the prospect of life without these delicious and unique dishes dawned on us both.
Which is how Gurkha Fine Foods began. We wanted to continue to enjoy the food we had come to love. Luckily, our friends and colleagues within the Gurkha community have always been more than happy to share their skill and knowledge with us. When developing our range of products we have talked to Gurkha chefs, soldiers and their wives to ensure that we find the best and most authentic recipes. The Gurkhas have been involved in every tasting and sampling along the way.
Our sauces, chutneys, condiments and spice kits all capture the unmistakable flavours of Nepal. And for those who prefer some fire in their curries, we offer our signature Hillboy, a condiment with a fierce chili kick, which can be stirred into your meal.
